10-17-08: SOL to Bridgeport Soundtigers
October 21, 2008Tough Shoot-out loss here, but I guess if you have to lose to someone - at least it was a great former teammate. Curtis McLean scored two goals in the shootout to seal this one for the SoundTigers. The pens did a great job digging themselves out of an early hole, and battled for that point.
1-1/2 fights in this one.
Engelland vs. Pitton
This is a class Deryk Engelland fight. In control the whole time, trades some bombs, and gets the win. Nice job Deryk. I have another video of this to post, but for the time being here is this one.
Cote vs. Comeau
I really count this as about 1/2 a fight. The check that Cote delivers before the hit to Comeau’s teammate is included in the video, and should be one of the biggest of the year. The “fight” (notice the quotes) lasted about as long as it takes for two people to fall down. Great hit J.P.!

Big Pens vs. Maple Leafs 9/26/08
September 28, 2008Bissonnette vs Hollweg
Great fight here by Bis - controlled it from start to finish! Good Luck on the trip overseas!

Pens drop second game to Wolves - down 0-2 in the series
June 2, 2008After a hard-fought second game, the Penguins were not able to overcome the Chicago Wolves, and now trail in the series with two games coming up at home. It was a hard fought physical game with SWB getting under the skin of several Wolves players. I forsee this becoming a larger storyline as this series continues. There were three occasions of a Wolves player being face-down, motionless, or crawling off the ice on their hands and knees on clean hits from WBS. Clearly it wasn’t enough though, after spotting the opposition 3-0 leads in each of the first two games.
On the fight front there was one when Nathan Smith and Oystrick went toe to toe. Nathan threw about 10 punches and landed one or two - and Oystrick threw one and landed none - I personally call it a draw, then Oystrick did this little spinning dance, for what reason, who knows. It looked like someone from Will and Grace. Bottom line, if you don’t win the fight, don’t dance. The home crowd may like it, but to the real world you just end up looking like a bad mustache with a drunk sorority girl attached to it.
Also, congrats to Haydar on his two goals giving him the all time AHL playoff scoring title.

Pens win - go up 3-1
May 8, 2008
Another great games by the Pens as they outscored the Phantoms 8-4. Philadelphia did however win the MMA crown of the AHL and found themselves in the penalty box numerous times. So many times in fact, that the arena is looking into putting an automatic door on the sin bin, much like your local supermarket. Due to overcrowding, you now also need a reservation for the Phantoms penalty box. So Tristan, if you are out there, make sure you call ahead for special stupid penalty seating , and request a good seat near the ice for the first, second, and third period…
Lets end this on Friday @ home!!!

Lets Go Pens! Amazing comeback!
May 4, 2008Wow what a comeback! Down 4-1 entering the third period, the guys really stepped up their play, and tied it up with 45 seconds left. I think that Luca Caputi’s goal, where he out hustled, and out muscled the Phantoms defensemen was really the turning point. Philly was treating the third period like a 20 minute long power play, just dumping the puck out of the zone, until the magic started to happen!
Great job boys!!
On a side note, how pumped was Minard when he came out for his #1 star? That was great to see!
